Spotlight: William Morris textiles

A new shipment of William Morris textiles has arrived at our store. There is a rich history tied to the textiles and wall coverings by William Morris, which makes them even more special and unique. William Morris was one of the most celebrated designers in the 19th century and was a key figure in the Arts & Crafts movement.

From an early age, Morris had a great appreciation for craftsmanship, which was uncommon at the time due to the new principle of industrial progress that was starting to spread during the Victorian Era. The concept of handmade production didn’t suit the focus on industrial progress.

It was when he met Edward Burne-Jones, who became one of the most renowned painters during that era, that his love for art developed further. The two lifelong friends had gone on an Architectural tour of Northern France and had decided to dedicate their life’s work to art. When it came to designing his own home, Morris was unhappy with the commercial market and spent two years decorating and furnishing his home with his artistic circle. In 1861 Morris and some of his friends started their interiors company, “Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co.” and the rest is history! We love to have William Morris textiles at Helma Interior.
