My Internship at Helma Interior

My Internship at Helma Interior 2048 1536 Julia Ochsenreither

My name is Emma and I did a one-week internship at Helma Interior Design in Heidelberg.  During that time, I was able to get a good overview of the services Helma Interior is offering their clients. The store offers high quality furnishings in a modern style as well as some selected antiques.  Furthermore, they provide a custom project planning with an interior architect. The entire store has a very pleasing and elegant atmosphere.

During the course of my internship, I was able to get an initiation of vending at a retail store. I learned some useful things, which are also very handy to know for everyday life. For me personally, it was very much fun to get in contact with clients.  Due to the fact that every client is different and you get in contact with interesting people.

Later in that week I got to meet Kristine Schober, who is one of the interior architects at Helma interior. She shared some of her expert knowledge with me and explained the main substance of her current projects. One of them included a window decoration. Therefor she taught me many things, for example what different types of pleat tape you can get. The following day I then participated in one of her counselling interviews, which was very fun.

Ultimately I can say, that the store offers a wide spectrum of interior furniture and accessories. From wooden furniture to thin, exclusive fabrics and custom service you can get there everything an interior enthusiast could ask for.

It was a pleasure that Helma Interior offered me the opportunity to gain an insight into this job.

Best regards,

Emma

Solid wood specialty parquet flooring

Solid wood specialty parquet flooring 5472 3648 Julia Ochsenreither

We have worked with skilled craftsmen from the czech republic that produce solid wood specialty parquet flooring as well as furniture pieces. Most pieces are custom and they are true masters at creating the customers unique visions.

The wood used in the projects comes from the Czech Republic, and production also takes place there. Hundreds of square meters of new floors are produced in a two story building equipped with state of the art capentry workshops. Here, they implement the most recent and innovative production techniques. The flooring ranges from boards, parquet flooring to complicated parquet panels. There are 12 basic types of floors that are available in the portfolio, but bespoke parquet panels are more commonly produced to fit the clients needs. The company does not believe in series production so each project is truly unique. For surface treatment hard natural wax oils are used or a wide range of finishing coats made by the English producer Farrow&Ball.

The projects are handcrafted and go through rigorous controls before they reach the clients.

Neptune: Fall and Winter Collection

Neptune: Fall and Winter Collection 4032 3024 Julia Ochsenreither

As usual, Neptune doesn’t disappoint in this seasons Autumn and Winter collection. Among many of the new items and color palettes, is a fully customizeable wall shelving unit (see Gallery for a photo). This will continue to keep your home up to date with the latest in home design and unlike any other living space.

For starters, Neptune has introduced a new tone for the Autumn line which is „Ink“. This is a navy tone that is so dark it is almost black! The hint of blue is still recognizable, but this is definitely a color for those brave enough for something different. It goes great in spaces that are otherwise neutral and mixed with cognac brown tones and deep oranges for example. You can also use it as an accent color.

Behind the Scenes: Neptune Furniture Production

Behind the Scenes: Neptune Furniture Production 4032 3024 Julia Ochsenreither

Our team visited Neptune’s headquarters in Swindon, England and we were all thoroughly impressed. We had the opportunity to visit the Neptune furniture production, office, storage, and showroom spaces. The headquarter is beautifully designed and creates an atmosphere that you don’t want to leave, it truly feels like home.

On the first day, one of the things we learned about was the types of wood that are used as well as joinery techniques for the Neptune furniture production. Afterwards we took a tour of the big showroom space, where we were able to identify what elements made each kitchen collection unique, and what production methods were used.

After the wood has been delivered, most of which comes from North America, the magic begins in the large carpenters workshop next to the headquarters. The furniture pieces are tested, customized and perfected here. There are experts in every field, which makes the overall atmosphere of the space very inspiring.

The Suffolk Kitchen by Neptune

One of many areas of focus at Helma Interior is Kitchens. We have recently renovated the store as mentioned in previous posts, and as a major element we now have the Kitchen area with all of the furniture components from Neptune ltd. We value spaces that you can live in and want to spend time in, so the concept of slow living is something we strongly believe in. Neptune´s design philosophy encompasses similar principles, which is also evident in their kitchen designs, e.g. with the Suffolk collection. They build their kitchens around the principle that they should not only look good, but also cater to daily life and making it as easy as possible.

Their kitchen cabinetry is comprised solely of solid timber, which allows it to withstand anything without shrinking or warping. The material is renewable, natural, and versatile.  The counter surfaces are also made from high quality material including natural stone, man made composites, or pure oak.

Furniture Spotlight: The Larder by Neptune

Furniture Spotlight: The Larder by Neptune 3024 4032 Julia Ochsenreither

The Larder created by Neptune ltd. is a must have in every kitchen and is sure to be on anyone’s Wish-list! Apart from being an aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture, it is also extremely functional. Form and function, it doesn’t get any better than that! Here are some highlights and reasons why we love it!

For starters, the Larder even has storage space on the inside of both doors. Four small, narrow rows of shelving. This could be a perfect spot for spices, or smaller breakfast items like jam or teas.

Shelves are a given, but what is especially great when it comes to these shelves is that they are on zigzag brackets, which allows them to have dozens of teeth (one every 45 mm to be exact). This allows for maximum flexibility.

Depth is another great attribute.  There is enough room to add in free standing ledges, so that you can see everything at first glance. Below the shelving, there are drawers for additional storage for those items you don’t want to necessarily see right away.

Small details make the Larder what it is, like magnets that are integrated into the door design without being too obvious and allowing the doors to shut snugly. Another small design detail includes oak dowels, which take the weight off of the Larder door so that when it shuts, there is no noise whatsoever. It is the compilation of these aspects that make the Larder so special.

Spring Renovations: Store

Spring Renovations: Store 2016 1512 Julia Ochsenreither

We are really excited about the changes that are underway at our Helma-Interior store at Brückenkopf 1/2 Heidelberg! We are renovating the store itself, as well as an additional office space which will be occupied by our in house interior architect, Jannet Butzinger. Check out her website: www.butzinger.com

With the help of Jannet Butzinger, we have designed a new concept that incorporates beautiful furniture from Neptune, a company we have loved and valued for many years! The entrance is one of the areas that we are in the process of renovating. On one side of the new wall addition we will be showcasing a kitchen, from the Neptune Suffolk Collection. On the other side there will be pieces from Neptune’s Chichester collection, more on that later! All furniture pieces will get a beautiful paint finish, that will tie everything together nicely.
